Last Tuesday, November 25, we engaged in our annual event, the FIS Careers Day. Grade 9 to 12 students had the opportunity to hear about everyday tasks in a wide range of professions. This time we took a different spin on the event and invited FIS Alumni from all over the world to a virtual chat in a series of panels. The response from both – Alumni and FIS students – was overwhelming.
Alumni from the most diverse career and academic backgrounds shared their ideas, thoughts and reflections about paths post-graduation. The panels included careers in:
- Software-Technology-Engineering,
- Marketing-Media-PR,
- Medicine-Biotechnology-Healthcare,
- Design-Creativity-Art, and
- Business-Entrepreneurship-Law.
During each session, our students engaged in a stimulating and professional discussion about their future aspirations. They were curious about the existing career possibilities, navigating life opportunities and further learning options. It was inspiring to hear the stories that the Alumni shared; reflecting on the value of the IB Diploma Programme, the necessity (or lack thereof) of academic achievements, the benefits of internships, the importance of a strong network, the perks of a gap year, as well as the invaluable character of an internationally-minded and service-oriented citizen. It offered inspiration and motivation that the future is bright.
It was a great moment of pride and gratitude to see the FIS family come together and share the lessons learned.
