IB DP Information Night

Secondary

We invite all Grade 10 parents and students to join us on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at 19:00 in the FIS Theater.

The philosophy, objectives, structure, and requirements of the IB programs will be explained. There will also be a brief overview of the timelines for university/college applications, and the sources of support in school for higher education planning and applications.

The IB Diploma curriculum booklet is essential pre-reading before this evening and may be downloaded below.

From 19:30 to 21:00, we will move to the Aula where there will be an opportunity for discussions with teachers representing each IB subject. We have also arranged a series of short subject presentations running through the evening, in the Conference Room, according to the following schedule:

19:30 to 19:45 (Group 6) Arts
19:45 to 20:00 (Group 5) Math
20:00 to 20:15 (Group 4) Science
20:15 to 20:30 (Group 3) Individuals and Societies
20:30 to 20:45 (Group 2) Language Acquisition
20:45 to 21:00 (Group 1) Language and Literature

I hope that the evening will be very helpful and informative for all students and parents in the decision-making process.

Immediately after the evening, students will complete an online ‘Straw Poll’ survey to allow us to evaluate the likely demand for courses and combinations. The survey will remain open until Thursday, December 19. Students will have the link to it, should discuss this with parents before completing, and may edit their responses at any time until December 19, since we appreciate that some are still very uncertain at this early stage in the process. These need not be the student’s final choices, but the survey is a broad planning tool for us in scheduling and staffing.

In the week commencing January 13, 2020, students will be provided with the paper IB/HS Diploma Choices Form, to be submitted by February 7, 2020.

More details pertaining to the event have been sent out in a letter to all Grade 10 parents.
