Unfortunately, in December 2021 the PTO had to cancel its visit to the medieval castle Greifenstein due to the COVID restrictions. Since the situation eased off in the meantime, we decided to offer the tour once again.
Built almost a thousand years ago, Schloss Greifenstein has been the ancestral seat of the Stauffenberg family for 300 years. If you are interested in finding out about German history from the middle ages until the 20th century, come and join us on this amazing tour.
The castle is truly a hidden treasure. Mr. Benker, the manager of the estate, will open the cabinets for you, show you library books which are hundreds of years old and demonstrate how to use the old weapons in what is one of the largest private collections of arms in Germany.
The tour is in English and will take approx. 2 hours.
DATE: Wednesday, May 18
MEET: 9:30 in front of Schloss Greifenstein, Greifenstein 2a, 91332 Heiligenstadt. (directions: http://schloss-greifenstein.de/schloss-greifenstein-umgebung-anfahrt/)
COST: EUR 10 to be paid upon entrance (a small part of the proceeds will go to the PTO fund for future events and excursions).
