FIScast Season 4 Episode 13

What does it actually feel like to represent a country, debate global issues, and speak in a room full of delegates from different schools and backgrounds?

In our latest podcast episode, Mr Chambers sits down with Diti, Shireen, and Zoe from the MUNFIS team, alongside teachers Ms. Billey and Mr. Nzimande, to reflect on their recent experience at the Zurich Model UN conference, hosted at ETH Zurich.

The conversation gives a real sense of what happens behind the scenes at MUN. Students talk about learning the structure of debate, navigating formal protocols, and finding their voice in a highly structured environment. But more than that, they describe what it means to step into someone else’s perspective, representing a country’s position, even when it challenges their own views.

There are honest reflections on confidence, moments of uncertainty, and the shift from preparation to actually speaking in committee. What begins as a school activity quickly starts to feel more real, as students engage with complex global topics and work together to draft and negotiate resolutions.

The episode offers a grounded look at how experiences like MUN go beyond academics – building communication skills, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world.
