Varsity Boys Football Team Shines in Berlin Showdown

Sports

Inspired by the U14 football team’s recent success, the Varsity boys embarked on a journey to Berlin, filled with ambition and a hunger for victory, determined to dedicate a GISST win to their late teacher. Despite a challenging start with cold rain and cramps, the team displayed remarkable resilience, securing two draws and two wins to clinch the second spot in the group and qualify for the quarterfinals. Their ability to bounce back not only from a shaky start but also to combat muscle fatigue and cramps showcased their unwavering determination.

On the second day, we witnessed the team deliver stellar performances against formidable opponents. Our team won against Berlin British School (3-0) and Bavarian International School (4-1). The tournament ended with a thrilling final between the two best teams: Leipzig International School and FIS.

The game was characterized by skillful plays and strong sportsmanship. Despite a 1-1 score at the end of extra time, the penalty shootout concluded with a 4-5 score in favor of Leipzig, leaving our boys as the runners-up for the second consecutive year. It marked an emotional end, especially with the impending graduation of nine players.

Congratulations to Leipzig International School on their win! And well done to the FIS U14 Boys Football team! A special thank you goes out to the parents who journeyed to Berlin, providing lots of encouragement and blankets of support.

In the face of adverse weather conditions in Cologne, our Varsity Girls Football team also showed commendable effort. They ultimately secured the 9th position out of 11 teams.
