Grade 5 Students on Being Back in School

We are gradually progressing towards bringing all the students back to school after about two months of learning from home. I caught up with Siddhi and Minato from Grade 5 to pick their brains about their tryst with post-Remote Learning school life. Here’s what they had to say.

P.S. It’s hard to tell but they are smiling behind those masks!

Q. How do you feel about coming back?

Minato: It’s really nice to be back but it also feels strange and new. We had a long period of remote learning and now it’s different to be back to regular school days. Also, we had longer school days earlier and now it’s going to be a while before we go back to that routine.

Siddhi: It’s great to be back and see friends again. But I miss the ability to shake hands with them or hug them.

Q. What did you miss most about school while in remote learning?

Minato: My friends! Seeing familiar faces.

Siddhi: The sense of being part of a happy community. While at home, we could Facetime or text each other, but that physical presence was lacking.

Q. What do you miss most about remote learning, now that you’re back?

Siddhi: Sleeping late!

Minato: Sleeping late, for sure! I take the bus to get to school, so I have to wake up at 6:30 every day. During remote learning, I could sleep until 9:00!

Q. What are the things you look forward to, as we slowly proceed towards “normal” school days?

Siddhi: I’m definitely hoping to find a sense of normalcy – especially in the cafeteria! I miss being able to pick up lunch and catch up with others more freely, without having to worry about keeping distance. Now that we have queues at the cafeteria with distance regulations, we are all really self-conscious. I hope this passes soon.

Minato: I really look forward to having all my classmates in school; even the ones who aren’t here yet.
