Breathe Better with Yoga 21

Community

Pause, right now. Take a few deep breaths. How do you feel?

The way you breathe affects your whole body. This is why activities focused on breathing such as Yoga, Pilates, TaiChi and Meditation are a good way to relax, reduce tension in the body and release the mind of anxiousness and stress. Taking a couple of deep breaths aligns our heart rate to the breath, which signals our brain to release endorphins, chemicals that have a natural calming and relaxing effect. Our bodies react in certain ways when we are stressed, such as having an increased heart rate, faster breathing, and high blood pressure. All these decrease as you breathe deeply. Three to ten breaths will already bring a shift. You can do them whenever you want, with no equipment, just yourself.

Happy Breathing!
