Art Bunker Tour in Nürnberg on April 10, 2019

PTO

The PTO invites you to join us for an English guided tour in Nürnberg. In the course of the tour, we will cover the following two locations:

World War II Art Bunker

The guide will take you down into “Subterranean Nürnberg” and introduce you to places that have been there for centuries, but are “hidden” beneath the streets of the city. Shortly after World War II began, a unique art depot was established in the ancient bedrock cellars directly under Nuremberg Castle. Sheltered as much as 24 meters underground, the city’s most important art treasures survived the heavy air raids intact.

The Well House of the Imperial Castle of Nürnberg

The “Deep Well” was probably created at the same time as the first building of the Imperial Castle. The well never fails to impress. From the top of the 16th-century parapet built of sandstone ashlars, the shaft has been driven down over 50 meters into the rock. This depth is convincingly demonstrated during every tour of the castle.
