Head of Secondary School

The Position

The Head of Secondary School is the leader and role model of learning in the Secondary School, incorporating academic and social/emotional development of Secondary School students by enacting the FIS Mission and Vision. The Head of Secondary School has an awareness that education occurs outside as much as inside the classroom,  has clear ideas of what a successful lesson should look like and role-models it when teaching. They are an advocate for students, giving them voice and empowering them as individuals and learners.

The Head of Secondary School is part of the Senior Leadership Team at the FIS.

Responsibilities:

1.Operations:

  • Lead the Secondary School in close liaison with all stakeholders, in alignment with IB Philosophy, Standards and Practices, the IB Learner Profile, the FIS Mission and Vision, Strategic Plan and with other FIS programs
  • Organize the day to day running of the Secondary School, including daily schedule, calendar, field trips, staffing and cover, exams, reporting, operational systems
  • Provide professional and personal support and direction to all section faculty
  • Provide effective staff appraisal
  • Put systems in place to develop and drive active student leadership
  • Identify staffing needs, find short-term solutions if needed and actively participate in the staff recruitment process
  • Communicate section relevant topics to all relevant stakeholders
  • Develop, implement and monitor section relevant policies
  • Be highly visible inside and outside classrooms and at school events
  • Enforce rules throughout the section
  • Foster a vibrant Secondary School spirit by demonstrating and providing opportunities for positive interactions
  • Drive and live school culture
  • Responsible for well-being of members of section

2. Support

  • Support Head of School as needed
  • Support successful building, planning, implementing and evaluating of pastoral program
  • Support successful building, planning, implementing and evaluating of section curriculum
  • Support Head of Administration and Business Manager with financial planning and running of section

3. Teaching

  • Teach and manage the educational program relevant to subject and grade level(s) based on the FIS curriculum and as required by the Head of School

The successful candidate will meet many of the following criteria:

  • Degree in Education
  • Passion for educating Secondary School students
  • Ability to role model successful teaching
  • Proven successful leadership experience and expertise

  • Understanding of the IB
  • Previous experience in international schools
