Student Action: Grade 5 Turn Soccer Coaches

Primary

Starting this week, Grade 5 students are football coaching Grades 1 and 2 in the EY Gym.

In an entirely student-led initiative, Graham, Henry, Lucas, Yudhi, and Roman have organized a football club to share their expertise. When asked about the motivation for taking this step, Co-Head Coach Lucas says, “We often noticed that Grade 1 and 2 wouldn’t get to play football enough, so we thought we could be coaches and teach them on some school days at break time.”

Henry adds, “We all play football and our coaches are really important to us as they taught us how to play. So this is our way to help the younger students have fun and gain some experience in the sport.”

The Grade 1 and Grade 2 FIS Phoenix Football Club is open to students three days a week. The coaches are really excited, and though they agree it’s hard to teach someone, it’s also a lot of fun. We wish our students the best in this fresh and enterprising initiative.
