Dear Students, Parents, Colleagues and Friends of the FIS,
As we head into a well-deserved Spring break, we want to acknowledge and celebrate the last few weeks our Grade 12 students have experienced – IB Art Exhibition, AGIS Higher Education Fair, Spirit Week, and Prom Night. Today was their last regular school day, and we wish them every success both in their exam preparations and in the examinations themselves. We also celebrate our Grade 10 students who are soon engaging in their own exams.
Looking ahead, the warmer weather brings plenty of exciting activities: Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Practice and Qualification Expeditions, Grade 4 bike training, and overnight trips for Grades 4, 5, 10 and 11 all taking place in May and June. We also look forward to our TEDx event on Monday, April 28, and the music concerts for Early Years, Primary, and Secondary students.
This past week, we celebrated our recently launched Community Expectations, created from our school values to guide how we interact daily:
- Act and communicate with kindness and respect
- Consider others’ feelings, opinions, vulnerabilities, and differences
- Work together to create a safe and inclusive environment
- Reflect and take responsibility
- Strive to grow
It was inspiring to see everyone living out these expectations. A powerful example took place during our duty less cafeteria, where students themselves calmly reset the noise level by raising their hands – an immediate, respectful response that highlighted the strength of our shared standards. Many homeroom and advisory sessions also provided safe spaces for students to reflect on their actions and decisions. Looking ahead, these expectations will be revisited at the start and end of each school year, and will be integrated into our home-school partnership contract. Crucially, the Community Expectations underpin our work on expectations on behavior and relationships policy, crafted with input from students, educators, and parents to ensure a positive and supportive culture for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support. May you all have a relaxing break – enjoy the sunshine, stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Warm regards,
Petra Niemczyk
