G9 Students at the Jurasic Coast in Spain

G9 Students Explore Culture and Learning in Oviedo

Secondary

As part of our ongoing Spanish exchange program, a group of Grade 9 students recently spent a week in Oviedo, Asturias, immersing themselves in Spanish culture, language, and community life. Hosted by IES Dr. Fleming, the visit offered rich opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Throughout the week, students explored local attractions, including the famous dinosaur footprints along Spain’s Jurassic Coast. They also took part in workshops focused on vocational education, where they experienced virtual training sessions that showcased the diversity of future career paths.

A highlight of the trip was participating in a podcast session at IES Dr. Fleming, giving students the chance to collaborate and share ideas in a creative, international setting. The group’s visit even caught local attention, earning a feature in the regional newspaper.
