Over the last two weeks, our Grade 5 students have been fully immersed in the World Peace Games – an engaging simulation that challenges them to tackle complex global crises through negotiation, leadership, and creative problem-solving. Guided by the principles of the Primary Years Programme, students developed critical thinking and collaboration skills, and discovered how to connect classroom learning to real-world issues.

One of the most noticeable outcomes was the way students stepped confidently into unfamiliar roles such as team negotiator, economic advisor, and head of state. In these roles, they had to forge alliances, strategize collectively, and propose innovative solutions to multifaceted problems – mirroring real-life scenarios that demand both empathy and decisiveness.

The World Peace Games naturally align with the PYP’s emphasis on reflection and global awareness. As students wrap up this experience, they’ll be connecting what they’ve learned to upcoming Units of Inquiry – particularly those involving real-life global challenges and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals they studied in Grade 4. This reflective process ensures that the lessons gained from the World Peace Games will continue to resonate, enhancing students’ ability to think critically about the world around them.

Above all, the sense of excitement and enthusiasm was palpable each day—students came to class eager to jump back into the game’s unfolding events. Their curiosity, creativity, and willingness to collaborate are clear indicators of the tremendous learning they and their teachers experienced together. We look forward to seeing how this newfound global mindset shapes their next steps in learning, both within our school community and beyond.
