We’re thrilled to share that we have officially been approved by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP)! This achievement underscores our commitment to delivering a world-class, inquiry-based education for every student from Early Years right through to Grade 12. As an IB Continuum School, we are recognized for delivering a cohesive learning journey under the IB’s philosophy, ensuring students develop essential skills and a global mindset at every step. This significant achievement is the culmination of many months – even years – of dedicated effort and collaboration across our entire school community, and we are immensely proud.
Earlier this year, we welcomed two experienced IB visitors for our official verification visit. During their time on campus, they interviewed staff, students, parents, and board members, observed classroom learning, and toured our facilities. At the conclusion of their visit, the lead visitor shared two questions she always asks herself: “Would I want to send my child here?” and “Would I want to work here?” Her answer to both was a resounding “Yes.”
The verification report highlighted and commended the following:
- Our teachers collaborate to develop a clear vertical and horizontal curriculum.
- We use a strong inquiry-based approach in our classrooms, with critical thinking skills explicitly planned for.
- The Primary school promotes international-mindedness, and the IB learner profile is woven naturally into our lessons.
- Students take real-world action with what they learn, positively impacting their community and beyond.
- Our school environment, facilities, and equipment are purposefully used to enrich inquiry learning.
- We have solid procedures in place to provide additional support for students and families who need it.
- We have cultivated a respectful and understanding community that supports a dynamic learning environment.
The report did not include any ‘Matters to Be Addressed’ (these are actions that the IB stipulates we must follow to be an IB accredited school). The visitors did include some items we may want to consider. You can see the following recommendations:
- Continue to make adjustments to our timetable to enable transdisciplinary learning, in-depth inquiry and more time to collaborate amongst subject specialists.
- Once the new subject continuums are published for the PYP, the school should ensure a systematic approach to integrate the new guidance.
- We should continue to ensure that a range and variety of strategies for teaching and learning are planned for.
- We should ensure that reporting student progress aligns with the assessment philosophy of the programme.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who has supported and invested in our Primary school over the years. We look forward to the opportunities this change will bring to our school community and to continuing our mission of excellence in international education!
