Responsibilities
Program Planning and Evaluation
- Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery and evaluation of the school counseling program in accordance with school goals
- Maintain accurate, secure and confidential records as appropriate
- Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
- Collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis
- Communicate the goals and services of the counseling program to the school community to enhance visibility of the Counseling Team and to promote understanding of the services offered
System Support
- Support and consult with families and staff effectively through facilitating meetings, workshops, and professional learning sessions around psychoeducational and wellbeing-related topics, as required to meet student needs and school goals
- Actively engage in regular professional learning to maintain and enhance the counseling program and to support systemic needs
Preventive and Responsive Services
- Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling to students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations relevant to student success
- Implement an effective referral and follow-up process to assist students and families seeking external resources
- Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services
- Collaborate with the Learning Support Team to identify and support students, assisting in the development of student Individual Education Plans where needed
- As part of the Safeguarding Team, maintain current understanding of safeguarding and child protection legislation and standards
- As part of the Crisis Response Team, respond to student, family and school crisis and emergency situations
Individual and Group Planning and Curriculum
- Work closely with students, teachers and families to plan, monitor and understand students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and learning growth and development, to take action on their next steps personally and academically
- Provide individual support and proactive programming that promotes students’ self-confidence, social cohesion and inclusion, healthy relationships, respect for diversity, wellbeing, and positive academic engagement
- Provide proactive leadership that engages all stakeholders in designing, delivering, and evaluating SEL and wellbeing-related programming—including but not limited to transitions support, peer mentoring, and SEL curricular instruction—in alignment with Counseling and Pastoral Team direction
The ideal candidate
- A degree in School Counseling, School Social Work, Educational Psychology or the equivalent from an accredited graduate school
- Counseling experience in a school setting, preferably with the IB program
- A collaborative approach to learning and leading, with outstanding organization and communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive practice, fostering inclusion, respect, and belonging for all community members
- A strong understanding of the experiences of students with learning exceptionalities, EAL learners, children in transition, and those with diverse social-emotional or neurodiverse needs
- Knowledge of current legislation and standards in relation to the safeguarding and protection of children and adolescents
- German language proficiency advantageous
