Karate for Teens

A girl in a karate uniform with a green belt, and a boy with a blue belt behind her, doing a controlled punch movement

Karate / Martial arts training builds confidence, respect, leadership, and self-control. It helps teens handle bullying and teaches them the value of hard work and discipline. They’ll improve their fitness, concentration, strength, and self-confidence.

In the karate lessons at the FIS, students will not do partner exercises before they have learned the basic techniques of karate and controlling their movements. Students will do some easy self-defense exercises and release techniques – This will create fitness and safety for the students.

The students will learn the karate exercises by way of ‘games’. Students will learn a bit of the history and traditions of karate, along with simple Japanese words that are typical karate commands.

**Bring your sport clothes to start with but a karate uniform will need to be supplied by parents at a later stage.
