Middle School

The Middle School Student Council consists of eight students, one representative from each home room class. They meet to discuss issues of importance affecting students in the Middle School community.
The Student Council strives to:

  •  improve communication between the student body, faculty, and administration of the FIS Middle School by providing a place for students to voice their opinions and become actively involved in issues affecting their general welfare.
  •  encourage active participation by all students in the various extra-curricular activities of the FIS Middle School.
  •  develop leadership qualities, organisational skills, and democratic ideals in preparing the students for active participation in a democracy.

Membership of the council provides opportunities for students to :

  •  Contribute to the school community
  •  Represent the school in a positive way
  •  Organise student events that enhance school life

Achievements

Some examples of Student Council achievements are:

  •  Raising money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal, Japanese Tsunami Appeal, Oceana Europe
  •  Homework surveys
  •  Organising a disco
  •  Organising and implementing a recycling program in the Middle School.
  •  Organising and promoting Spirit Week.

New Student Council in the Elementary School

The FIS has already had a Middle School and a High School student council for some time and we have decided that it would be a wonderful idea to also give our responsible elementary students a voice in the school.

Over the past two weeks we have gone through the election stage and nomination stage and have had out first ever meeting. We have two elected representatives from each class in Grades 3 and 4 giving a total of 8 students on the council. The ES Student Council will start this school year just involving Grade 3 and 4 students, and will meet once per week at lunchtime on Thursday with Ms Poli and Mr Lawler. We will review this at the end of the year June and decide if we will expand this to the younger grades.
The council will not only discuss internal school issues but also community and service learning issues. We look forward to a very productive year.
Congratulations to the Students Council Representatives in the Elementary School:
