Dress Code and School Wear Policy

The FIS does not have a uniform but we have developed a School Wear Policy in the Kindergarten and Elementary Schools, and Dress Code in the Middle and High schools to ensure that students are always dressed appropriately, and to eliminate competition regarding clothing.

To comply with the FIS Kindergarten/Elementary School Wear Policy, students should wear:

  • Navy, white or red shirts (T-shirts, polo shirts, oxford shirts, turtle necks, sweaters and sweatshirts), all in solid colors, but may have a small logo.
  • Trousers, skirts or shorts will have no defined color requirement. Dresses may be worn, but should also be in the above solid colors only.

FIS Kindergarten/Elementary students should not wear:

  • T-shirts, polo shirts, oxford shirts, turtle necks, sweaters and sweatshirts which have stripes, plaids, or checks or any multiple color combination.
  • T-shirts, polo shirts, oxford shirts, turtle necks, sweaters and sweatshirts which have a large logo that dominates the piece of apparel.
  • Various shades of the above mentioned colors such as pink, magenta, purple, cream, violet, orange, light blue.

During the school year there are days where students may dress up such as Halloween or Fasching, and dress down days where students may wear clothes which are still practical, but do not necessarily conform to the color code. These are all Fridays and all early (12:00) dismissal days. As well, children may also wear their own choice of clothes on their birthday.

On all school days:

  • Clothes shall be worn as they are designed with pants secured at the waist, belts buckled, no underwear as outerwear, no underwear exposed.
  • Clothing should be clean and in good repair.
  • House shoes are to be worn inside of the school building.
  • All students should wear appropriate footwear when outdoors.
  • Hats, caps, visors or sunglasses shall not be worn in the school building.
  • Jewelry: the following are the only jewelry items which may be worn: earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets. Maximum 3 pieces.

  • Clothing with extra holes, tears or inappropriate patches will not be allowed.
  • Garments which display or suggest sexual, vulgar, drug, alcohol or tobacco related wording/graphics shall not be worn.
